Not us, ALL Him!

“I couldn’t do what you and Cherie are doing in Manila” is a regular comment we hear from so many friends and family members back in Australia. Actually, I think we would also say the same thing if we thought about it too hard.

Because life over here CAN be hard sometimes.

But Safe Haven is not about us!

Safe Haven and our small part in its journey is ALL about God.

We wouldn’t even be here if it wasn’t for him, that we know for sure.

Safe Haven is all about what God is doing in the lives of many people in Manila and we are simply instruments in His hands.

Cherie and I, often equate our lives in Manila to a scalpel; a small yet deeply treasured instrument in the hands of a skilled surgeon. But to the skilled surgeon, the scalpel is just one of many instruments he uses to do his work. He also uses an operating table, blood supplies, linen, swabs, stitches and bandages. Yet each instrument is vital and deeply valued in each of his careful and decisive operations

Recently, Cherie and I had the wonderful opportunity to return to Australia to fellowship over a meal with our beautiful friends and supporters at the Safe Haven dinner. As we looked around the room that night, it was overwhelming to see all of the instruments—each one uniquely diverse and amazingly skilled—that our great surgeon had brought together for his splendid design.

We realized that night that whilst we may only ever be humble instruments, our masterful surgeon had great plans for us all…from the operating table and the blood supplies to the linen, swabs, stitches and bandages. We saw how valuable each part was and how impactful we could be through working together.

What a blessing to know that we are not alone in Manila. How mighty is our Surgeon…to have combined all of His deeply prized and specialized instruments together, allowing each of us to work in unison so that He can do amazing things with damaged lives.

Cherie and I thank you all for being with us in Manila. We could never do this alone and thankfully we don’t have to.

God bless, Dave
